March 3, 2017: Uber issues a refund, a new addendum formally increases Uber’s commission, and local drivers affiliate with the Newspaper Guild

Before today, Uber was taking a 25% commission from UberBLACK drivers, even though their contracts called for a 20% commission.  Today, Uber refunded drivers the 5% difference and issued a new contract addendum formally increasing its commission to 25%.

Drivers are forced to accept the increased rate in order to use the App.  Uber did not explain why it needed to increase its commission by 5%.  Nor did Uber explain why UberBLACK drivers pay a higher commission than UberX drivers.

Local drivers also announced their new affiliation with the Newspaper Guild of Greater Philadelphia.

The misclassification lawsuit is now proceeding through discovery.
